Geary
Rogers was admitted to practice in Virginia in 1977, and in the District of Columbia in 1980.
He began his professional career as an underwriting attorney
for Chicago Title Insurance Company in the Fairfax, Virginia
office from 1977 to 1982.
While at Chicago Title, he handled legal title insurance
underwriting questions for both residential and commercial real
estate transactions, as well as handling numerous commercial
real estate closings as the title company attorney.
From the 1980’s to the present, his practice has
involved representing buyers and sellers in scores of
commercial real estate closings, including extensive negotiation
of contracts and representation of clients in closing on
commercial properties throughout Northern Virginia. This also involves representing
the buyer in the loan closing and the review of many different
types of commercial loan documents. He has conducted numerous foreclosures on commercial and
residential properties.
His practice has included issuing many legal opinions regarding
the validity and enforceability of commercial loan documents
issued to the lender as well as zoning opinions as to the validity of
the property’s zoning and the scope of permitted uses under
the current zoning.
In later years his practice has also included land use issues,
the drafting of Declarations of Covenants for mixed-use
commercial developments, including, recently, the Innovation @
Prince William Declaration, and the representation of clients in land use and site plan
approval issues before agencies of the Prince William County,
Loudoun County and Fairfax County governments.
He has handled proffer interpretation appeals in Prince
William County and real estate tax assessment appeals in Prince
William County Fairfax County, and Loudoun County.
