Kathy
Waters was admitted to practice in Virginia and the District of
Columbia in 1985 and has been practicing law with Compton & Duling
since 1988; she previously worked in private practice in
Washington, D.C. Her practice involves representation of local,
regional and national clients in matters involving real estate,
land development, zoning and permitting, business formations,
corporate matters, loans and financing, industrial development
authority bonds, transactions for churches, commercial leases,
tax-deferred exchanges, contracts and environmental issues (USTs,
wetlands, RPAs, etc.).
In her business and corporate practice, Ms. Waters has represented
numerous individuals and entities in formation of entities,
shareholder and partnership agreements, financings, and general
corporate law. Her land use and land development practice involves
special use permit and zoning cases in Prince William County, and
representation of residential and commercial developers in site
plan approvals, zoning matters and land development documents. Ms.
Waters also has many church clients, representing them in real
estate, loan and statutory matters. She represents numerous clients
in tax-deferred exchanges (structuring and documenting the
exchange, arranging the services of qualified intermediaries and
exchange escrow accounts, and closing the transactions). Ms.
Waters also has extensive experience in commercial and
construction loans, as both borrower's and lender's counsel. Her
environmental practice includes matters involving wetlands,
wetland permitting, underground storage tank regulations and
Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act requirements.
Ms. Waters is a member of the Virginia, Prince William County and
American Bar Associations; the Virginia State Bar and the District
of Columbia Bar.
Ms. Waters is also a member of the Board of Directors of the
Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Board of Directors of Evergreen Country Club; and a member of the Board of Directors of Northern Virginia Family Services. She has also served as Chairperson of the Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Board and officer of the Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board (appointed by
the Prince William Board of County Supervisors); a member of the Board of Directors of the Prince William Chapter
of the Northern Virginia Building Industry
Association
(NVBIA); the Chairperson for the Prince William United Way Campaign;
and a member of the City of Manassas Courthouse Complex Commission (appointed by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors).
Ms. Waters is an avid golfer and also enjoys hiking and
backpacking. She has been active in the choral and bell
choirs at her church. She reads, speaks and writes Spanish. |
